Hendrick Motorsports has petitioned to rezone 22.89 acres at the Mecklenburg-Cabarrus line from residential to industrial to expand its race-shop campus. City staff say the request is out of alignment with Charlotte's own area plan but recommend approval on jobs grounds. The petitioner added conditions, including excluding data centers, and the council closed the hearing without a vote.

Hamlin Wins Third Straight at Pocono, Cutting Reddick's Lead to 19 Points

Denny Hamlin held off Tyler Reddick by 1.678 seconds at Pocono on Sunday for his third straight NASCAR Cup win, a record eighth at the track. The streak cut Reddick's once-100-point lead to 19, turning the championship into a contest with 10 races left to set the Chase field.

Denny Hamlin won the NASCAR All-Star Race from the pole at Dover Motor Speedway on Sunday, beat his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Chase Briscoe in a side-by-side fight to the line, and became the third driver in the sport's history to win the All-Star at multiple tracks. Asked what he'd do with the $1 million check, he said he'd give it to his mother, a line that landed harder given his father's death in a December fire. The Cup field heads to Charlotte Motor Speedway next for the Coca-Cola 600.

Carson Hocevar won the pole at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday in the Spire Motorsports No. 77, edging teammate Daniel Suárez by 0.003 seconds. It is the second pole of Hocevar's career, the second Spire car on the front row, and the third weekend in a row that Spire Motorsports, the Concord-based Cup team, has put a car in NASCAR's spotlight.

Six days later, the same Concord-Mooresville pipeline runs at Texas, with Kyle Larson in the JR Motorsports No. 88, Connor Zilisch in the No. 1, and Austin Dillon in the Richard Childress No. 3. Three Cup drivers, the final Dash 4 Cash of 2026, and Justin Allgaier with a stage-points pace nobody has hit since Denny Hamlin in 2021.
